MEDIA RELEASE - September 24th 2008
Your Wirral funding window set to open

The Your Wirral fund opens up again next month so groups interested in obtaining grants are being urged to start formulating their application very soon.

Your Wirral is a fund administered by Wirral Council and Wirral Partnership Homes which offers grants of up to £5,000 for community or voluntary groups right across Wirral to fund one-off projects or events.

Last year some £300,000 was awarded to a wide range of local groups to help fund a variety of activities. This year there is closer to £500,000 available and to provide better balance of how the funds are shared, organisers have decided to bring in application ‘windows’.

The first of these opens at 8.30am on October 20th and closes 11 days later at 4.30pm on October 31st. Grants will be available to groups or organisations who required funding for projects with start dates between December 2008 and March 2009. The next window will be open in February for projects starting between April 2009 and July 2009.

Application forms can be obtained by calling Phil Baker on 0151 691 8349 or by emailing info@yourwirral.org.uk. They are also available to download on the Wirral Partnership Homes website, www.wphomes.org.uk

A dedicated Your Wirral website – www.yourwirral.org.uk – will also launch very shortly.

“The volume of applications we had during the last round did not surprise us because we knew there were so many groups in Wirral who are doing lots of good work in their neighbourhoods,” said Brian Simpson, Chief Executive of Wirral Partnership Homes.

“By managing the application process in this new way we hope that the fund will reach the groups that need it, when they need it.”

Cllr. George Davies, Wirral Council Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Safety, added: “When we launched Your Wirral at the end of November 2007 we received a tremendous number of applications from a wide range of voluntary and community sector organisations from across the whole of the Borough. I hope that we will continue to see such a healthy, diverse demand for the fund when the window opens on October 20th.”
