Local volunteers from groups across Wirral that give up their time to benefit the local area attended a presentation event after successfully applying for grants from the hugely popular Your Wirral Fund.
The fund launched in November 2007 is administered by Wirral Partnership Homes (WPH) and Wirral Council and grants are available to groups across Wirral to fund one off projects or events. This time another £88,545 was awarded to 51 organisations for amounts ranging from £500 to a maximum of £2,500. Your Wirral operates three funding rounds per calendar year, with a set amount of funding each year.
Brian Simpson, WPH Chief Executive said: “Over the past 7 years we have awarded over £1.7m in grants and the Your Wirral Fund is more important than ever to small voluntary groups in Wirral, now that other methods of funding have dried up or become more difficult to access. WPH are not just about bricks and mortar, we want to support vibrant communities and the great work that goes on locally, as does Wirral Council.”
On the night 39 of the 51 groups attended to receive certificates and their awards. Among them Jimmy Holsgrove, Branch Treasurer of the local Royal Army Service Corps (RASC) Association which is open to all previous officers with them or the Royal Corps of Transport (RCT). Jimmy said: “The Your Wirral grant will help us fund our events next year which include two dinners per year and an annual garden party. Our members who are ex service personnel are mainly senior citizens and it is a great way for members, partners and their families to keep in touch and retain the bonds of comradeship formed in difficult times.”
Other worthy recipients included Wirral Environmental Network, St Vincent de Paul Society, Wallasey Historical Society, Hoylake Lifeboat Museum, Wirral Wildlife, Masque Theatre Company, Thornton Allotment Society, Wirral Holistic Care, Birkenhead Venture Amateur Boxing Club and many others.
